Election 2008
Tonight an event occurred that happens in America once every 4 years, the Presidential Election. This year's election represents a first in history for America as Barack Obama appears to have handily won the Electoral vote by close to a 2:1 margin, the first African-American to ever hold the position in this country. It can be shown to some degree that the election may well have come down to or at least be based a lot on the votes of younger or new voters. Many polls showing record turnout for the younger age group. These voters represent others like me who are members of the newest generation of voters to surface in elections, those of the Millennial generation. So far the book Millennial Makeover has been correct in saying that the transformation predicted for this year would be towards a larger role by government, which is what the Democratic party supports. If there other predictions hold true as all indication shows they should, Millennials will come to mean even more for elections in the future. This means that elections in the near future and indeed the next presidential election of 2012 may well begin to shape American politics for 40 years as the trend shows. With all this on the line, I can only hope that the Millennial's decisions can be proven in the future to be good ones and that United States will remain as great a country as ever. Ending with a quote from John McCain finishing his concession, "God Bless, and God Bless America."

Have a great day,

I'd like to state he isn't the 1st African American to hold a position in this country. He is the 1st African American president. And with that said to be politically correct he is not 'fully' African American. I also find it interesting that this person, RP, saw your blog and is interested in your writing. It just goes to show all the connections one can have through the internet and the possibilities it presents.
Barack Obama is not considered African American in many eyes. He is a non-white leader with strong ideas. I also found it interesting how someone saw your blog and was interested in your writing. Our Internet can connect us to people throughout the world. We must be careful with the information we put out there about ourselves because it could get into the wrong hands if we are not cautious.
Considering the many thoughts that exist on how the nations youth will spell doom for us all, it's nice to see that the Millennial generation is capable of doing so much. Considering the restructuring Winograd and Hais suggest might be occuring, I also hope that the Millennial generation makes the best choices possible down the line.

Sounds like a Blog War! I agree with Mike but then again as long as Barak is president, we are always going to have this kind of bull shit.
Seeing how the Millennials did play a major part in the 2008 election, hopefully now older generations will see that we do care about our country and where it is headed. I hope that our generation always has a turnout like this and continues to care about the future of our country.
your post was very interesting and i like the way you connected it to young voters and millennial makeover. I strongly agree with the assertions made in that book, along with your post. It is clear that the millennials are affecting policy and society, and let's hope that we are making the right decisions.
I agree with you that it seems that the Millennial generation did have a major impact on this past presidential election. It seems that the future president how we obtained our information, through the internet, and used it to his advantage.
This was obviously a great moment in American history when Obama was elected President. He only further proves our generation's presence and our beliefs in a more diverse nation.
I too hope that the Millennial generation will prove to make educated and well thought out decisions over the next 40 years. Not only in the political sphere but in the workforce as well.
We played a large part in the 2008 elections, and I am sure we will continue to do so in the future!!
Watching the acceptance speech was amazing. Just listening to him speak, really made me believe he was truly going to contribute a lot of good to our country, which is what we are extremely desperate for.
This was definatly a great day in american history. It was pretty amazing that he won with a such a huge margin.
